The Tigers will take back to the practice field today, and junior safety Grant Delpit will have a new look — donning No. 7 for the 2019 season.

Delpit was a unanimous All-American choice last season, racking up 74 tackles to go with leading the Tiger defense in both sacks and interceptions with five each. It was most likely the best statistical season any LSU safety has ever had, and it certainly makes him worthy of the likes of Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Leonard Fournette and D.J. Chark. Delpit is also probably joining those four in the NFL in a year or so.
The number seven doesn’t have quite the legacy of 18, but it seems to matter a great deal to the current crop of players, and trying to shoe-horn it on to Jonathan Giles last year, sadly, didn’t work out for any parties involved. But something tells me Delpit is more than up to the task.
