LSU hosted a trio of official visitors this weekend in three-star offensive lineman Marlon Martinez, four-star safety Lathan Ransom and five-star receiver Rakim Jarrett. It’s a noted shift in strategy change that O and company pursued since the inaugural year of the early signing period. We’ll call it learnings. Clearly it’s paying dividends.

Just one week after the staff pulled four-star Jermaine Burton out of California, they go coast-2-coast, like Space Ghost, and pull down another top-40 talent, Rakim Jarrett. Jarrett ranks as the No. 2 receiver and 16th player overall on the 247 composite and holds offers from a host of national powers including Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia. This is one of the very best players in the 2020 signing class and LSU somehow secured his commitment.
Jarrett’s highlights are entertaining:
He’s average-sized, but dynamic with the ball in his hands. He looks so fluid and natural as a player. You can see how it will translate into dynamic route running and the ability to breakdown and blow by defenders. His footwork is top notch and he’s clearly got an extra gear. Best of all, he can really catch with his hands. He’s a guy that should be super effective whether LSU is feeding him the ball near the LoS, middle of the field from the slot or out on the edge running deep. I love the versatility I see.
LSU is putting together an absolutely bonkers receiver signing class right now with three commitments all in the top 40 players nationally. If you are looking for further evidence that the offense is truly shifting into a spread-oriented passing attack, look no further than the premium placed on attracting and landing top talents to the position. Whatever Joe Brady and Steve Ensminger are selling, these kids are buying right now. Myles Brennan will have himself no shortage of weapons. As Sam Cooke sung, change gonna come.
LSU is now the nation’s No. 1 signing class in America with 13 commitments. They are the only school in America with a pair of 5-star commitments (Jarrett and Ricks) to go along with 10 4-stars and 1 3-star. They remain in the conversation with a number of top 100 players left on the board, including sitting strong with another OV from this weekend, Lathan Ransom. Recruiting couldn’t be going any better right now. Coach O is making a statement.
