LSU’s efforts to beef up the defensive line in this recruiting cycle took another step forward today with the commitment of four-star prospect Eric Taylor:

Taylor is a four-star, top-300 prospect out of Trussville, Ala. who visited LSU recently and claims offers from most of the major SEC powers, including Alabama and Auburn. Listed at 6-4, 280 with reported times of 5.23 seconds in the forty, 4.53 seconds in the shuttle and a 25.5-inch vertical jump, Taylor measures up as a big, explosive defensive lineman.

Plenty to like here. Big, quick athlete with the frame to add more size. Could handle just about any spot on LSU’s front, maybe even as a one-technique nose if he adds enough weight. Will probably fit as a 3/4i/5-tech type of defensive end.
That makes four true defensive linemen for the class and 19 commitments overall. But don’t expect LSU to slack off on that front with the oft-mentioned studs still out there: Jacquelin Roy, Jacobian Guillory and Jalen Lee. The numbers are still a question, but Ed Orgeron and staff are clearly looking for as many possible answers.
