ATVS Roundtable: 18

Who’s in the running for 18 in ‘19? We debate the choices.

LSU’s report date continues to get closer, and it’s going to be time to select this season’s new No. 18. Who ya got?

Corey

It’s got to be Rashard Lawrence. I know Delpit and Burrow are great options, heck even Divinity could be an option as well, but he’s been a team captain the last two years and will be this year as well. Not only that, but he is a monster on the field, has fought through injuries and is right now. It just seems way obvious.

Also, can I put my vote in for Tory Carter next year just for being an overall badass?

Dan

My money is on Kristian Fulton. He’s paid his dues, stayed a model citizen, even after suffering a couple setbacks, and came back for one more run.

That’s exactly the type of player the 18 represents.

When was the last time the quarterback was the undisputed leader of the LSU offense? There’s been times we wished for the QB to pick up that mantle, but this is the time we are not forcing it. This is Joe Burrow’s team. He is the leader, and this offense is going to be in his image.

Give Burrow the 18.

Adam

Delpit got 7 so it’s safe to assume he’s out of the running for 18. That’s a whole other tradition that’s not to be tampered with any more than it already has been.

I like Divinity. A senior that has stuck around the program and produced in the past in addition to being the backbone of this year’s team.

Seth

I like all these ideas. Burrow, Divinity, Fulton and Lawrence would be my top picks. The only other guy I could see them giving it to is Fournette but there’s almost no way. It’s gonna be one of those first 4 and I’d like to see a linebacker who will align all over the place wear 18 so I’m going with Divinity

Crissy

I’d say Burrow, Divinity and Lawrence are all top candidates, and the ideas tossed around here are pretty much spot on. My personal pick is on Lawrence, though.

Zach

For the umpteenth year, if LSU is going to be successful it’ll come down to quarterback play. Everything is in play for Joe Burrow to have a successful year: an experienced offensive line, a backfield that’s getting a significant talent infusion, and virtually every receiver is back. Add in the fact that maybe, just maybe, LSU will have a modern offense to complement a stacked defensive group and there’s next to no excuse for Burrow to lead this team to 10 wins. Coming in from Ohio State, Burrow had to win over the locker room and did that thanks in part to his competitiveness and his refusal to slide when he scrambled outside the pocket. It gave me a heart attack every time he got popped but his teammates fed off it. Last summer he had to prove he could be one of the guys, now he’s proven he’s the guy.

Billy

Based on the way this offseason has gone, Burrow seems like the chalk pick here. He ingrained himself in the locker room from the moment games started in 2018, and since then he’s continued to take charge, and that was further evident this spring. Lawrence has always been a leader on this team since he stepped on campus, so that would be no surprise either. Michael Divinity seems like a sneaky pick on defense, as somebody who really seemed to take over the linebacking corps once Devin White left. Given all of the offense hype, Burrow seems like a more natural pick, and I think he takes it.
