Ed Orgeron’s 2021 recruiting class cemented itself as one of the best in college football with five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith committing to LSU.

Smith is the state of Louisiana’s best player and was arguably the most important player on LSU’s board. Yes it’d be nice to land Korey Foreman and Tristan Leigh is at a position of need, but Ed Orgeron simply could not allow Louisiana’s No. 1 prospect get away from home.

Smith is the No. 18 player overall in the 247 Sports composite and the second ranked defensive tackle. Rivals even has Smith as their best player overall.
