The positive momentum for Ed Orgeron’s Tigers continued over the Christmas holiday when senior center Liam Shanahan announced he’d return to LSU for another season.

Roster management, especially retaining older players, will be a theme for Orgeron and the coaching staff this offseason and getting Shanahan back is the first domino to fall in LSU’s favor.
Shanahan is able to return because of a blanket waiver granted to all fall sport athletes by the NCAA. All athletes, even seniors, were granted an extra year of eligibility.
Fortifying the offensive line is a priority. We know Shanahan is back, now the attention shifts towards trying to get junior guard Ed Ingram or senior tackle Austin Deculus back for one extra season. Redshirt sophomore Dare Rosenthal is a player who could potentially declare for the NFL draft too.
“I think you’re gonna be surprised by the retention level that we have,” Orgeron said. “I’ve talked to a lot of guys, now a lot of things can happen, but right now a lot of them are leaning on coming back. I’m recruiting the heck out of the offensive line which would really help us.”
