Cam Thomas scored 29 points Saturday against Nicholls State and those efforts were rewarded by the SEC and Thomas was named the SEC’s freshman of the week for the second time.
The 29 points were a career high for Thomas...that was until he scored a new career best 32 points against Texas A&M Tuesday night. Against the Colonels Thomas hit 10 shots, was 7-7 from the free throw line and three rebounds, a pair of assists and a block for good measure.
Including last night’s 32-point effort, Thomas has five 20-point games this season, the most among all freshmen in Division I. He’s also scored at least 15 points in all seven games this season, the longest streak by an SEC player in 25 years.
It’s the second time Thomas was named the conference’s freshman of the week. He earned the accolade in the first week of the season after scoring 27 points against SIU-E and 25 against Saint Louis in the Billiken Classic.
