With LSU completely replacing the field in Tiger Stadium, the university will hold the 2020 spring game on the bluff at Southern University’s A.W. Mumford Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
“This is a win for this community overall,” said LSU AD Scott Woodward in a release. “Southern University has a terrific facility and we are grateful to athletic director Roman Banks and Coach Odums for hosting us. We’re excited to play some football on the bluff in the spring.”
Mumford has artificial turf that was installed in 2016, so there will be no concerns on field quality with Southern also holding their spring practices.
Moving spring games is not something that can be done without an exemption from the NCAA and they have told many schools no in the past. Matt Moscona at 104.5 fm is reporting that LSU also explored options to play the game in New Orleans and Shreveport, but they were ultimately rejected.
Practices will begin for LSU on Saturday, March 7. Gametime on the spring game will be announced in March.
