Fan Pulse: Week 13

Confidence in the basketball program is cratering

Prior to football season, we asked you to participate in SB Nation’s FanPulse weekly rankings. Well, we’re doing the same with the basketball program.

Well wouldn’t you know, losing four out of five games and having a non-existent defense doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the masses. After losing a must-win game against Kentucky Tuesday night, LSU went from being in a three-way tie for first place in the SEC to two games back with five games to play.

LSU is still projected to make the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Tigers as the South Region’s 8-seed and would match up with Saint Mary’s of the West Coast Conference. But where the Tigers are now is a far cry from where they were being projected to be seeded at the start of the month.

LSU has a pair of tricky road games coming up. Saturday the Tigers will be in South Carolina, and Wednesday LSU makes the return trip to Florida, whom LSU barely held on to beat in Baton Rouge.

The SEC Tournament is also on the horizon. As of now, LSU is still in position to clinch a double-bye for the tournament in Nashville, but with the way things have gone lately that may not be the case come March.

With February drawing to a close, the spotlight only gets bigger for LSU. So far the Tigers have wilted. The fan base is losing confidence in Will Wade’s team and, at the rate LSU’s going, the tournament selection committee may soon be out on the Tigers too.
