A new week has begun but the Joe Burrow Bracket continues forward. Over the weekend we introduced a new region of our bracket, the Cigar Region. Like the Big Dick Joe Region, the No. 1 and 2 seeds advanced to the Round of 32 with ease. Today we’ll see if the region’s 3 seed can also advance or if the 14 seed can pull the biggest upset to date.
No. 3 Burrow’s 7-yard run vs. Auburn
The context:
LSU is in a fight with Auburn. Between the sloppy conditions and their awesome front four, Auburn’s defense is keeping LSU in check, while the Auburn offense has done just enough to keep pace with LSU’s.
LSU takes a 16-13 lead late in the third quarter thanks to a Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushing touchdown. Then Burrow is able to build that lead to two scores thanks to an excellently timed QB draw call. Auburn only brings four and the Tiger linebackers drop back into coverage expecting a pass. The Auburn linebackers drift too far back and Burrow goes in untouched.
No. 14: Terrace Marshall’s 6-yard throw on the run vs. Northwestern State
The context:
This is a sneaky awesome touchdown that I think we forget about. Yes it’s against Northwestern State and yes the game is a blowout at this point. But look at this! The Tigers are in the gun at the Demon’s five. The play takes some time to develop, and the pocket is starting to collapse forcing Burrow to roll left. Marshall, who initially breaks right, sees Burrow flushed out of the pocket and reverses course. Burrow sees a streaking Marshall all alone in the end zone and hits him for yet another score.
Also your daily reminder that Northwestern State had a brief lead over LSU, something that Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia or Oklahoma couldn’t do this year.
