Grant Delpit’s long wait ended early in the second round of the NFL Draft as the Cleveland Browns took the reigning Thorpe Award winner 44th overall.

Delpit was thought to have been a top-five pick coming into the year but an ankle injury and questions about his tackling sank his draft stock. Despite not living up to his lofty 2018, Delpit still won the Thorpe Award. But Delpit got healthy toward the end of the season and he started to resemble the player that was arguably the best defensive back in 2018. Delpit finished 2019 with 65 tackles, 4.5 for loss, 2 sacks and intercepted a pair of passes.

Cleveland has become LSU North, the Browns have Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, and Greedy Williams all on the roster. Delpit is LSU’s sixth pick in the draft; Joe Burrow, K’Lavon Chaisson, Justin Jefferson, Patrick Queen and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were all picked in the first round.
