Day three of the Get the Nat region. So far the No. 1 and 2 seeds held their own and advanced to the Sweet 16. Today ought to be a close call as we’re picking between a pair of really great throws by Burrow.
No. 3: Justin Jefferson’s 18-yard dart vs. Mississippi State
Why it should advance:
A few things stand out about this play.
- Watch how Burrow works through his progression. His first and second options are taken away but he keeps scanning the field and eyes Jefferson working the seam. This throw is yet another example of Joe Burrow being in complete control of the LSU offense. If this were Madden 2006, Burrow’s vision cone would look something like this

2. Look at the window Burrow fits that ball into! It’s the kind of throw that if he’s even a millisecond late the ball’s intercepted and Jefferson’s possibly decapitated by a Miss State safety. This is like trying to fit a grain of sand through a thimble and Burrow aces the test.
No. 6: Ja’Marr Chase’s 14-yard rainbow vs. Clemson
Why it should advance:
Because if we’re combining the degree of difficulty with the context of the moment, this might be the play that wins this whole thing. This play gave LSU the lead in a freaking national title game AND it’s an absolute dime of a throw by Joe Burrow. I mean come on, Chase beats the press coverage off the line, is running full speed toward the back corner of the end zone and Burrow lofts the ball right down the chimney.
I don’t know how any other play left has a better resume than this one. This is the Get the Nat region right? Well there ain’t a whole lotta plays that helped LSU get the nat more than this beaut right here.
