The Joe Burrow Touchdown Bracket Round of 32: Day 16

What was the best Joe Burrow touchdown of 2019? We’re asking you, the reader, to decide

NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Mississippi Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

One more vote and we will have narrowed 65 Joe Burrow touchdowns down to 16. Let’s finish off the Tiger King Region with an unpredictable 4-5 matchup.

No. 4 Justin Jefferson’s 35 yard deep ball vs Oklahoma

Why it should advance:

Because Justin Jefferson dropped what would’ve been a 20-25 yard catch and on the next play Justin and Joe said “Forget it, let’s go deeper and put it in the end zone.” Comparing Joe Burrow’s 2018 and 2019 numbers has gotten pretty stale by this point, but let’s remember that only three times last year did Burrow throw three or more touchdowns in a game. On this play he threw his third touchdown in the first quarter of a Playoff game. He probably threw a few more after that.

No. 5: Ja’Marr Chase’s 51 yard catch against Ole Miss

Why it should advance:

Because this play is a sum of quarterbacking parts that LSU has individually had in past years, but never altogether at once. Burrow displays a scrambling ability we saw in Jordan Jefferson and Danny Etling, then throws the ball with Brandon Harris level arm strength and drops it in the bucket with Zach Mettenberger accuracy. There have been countless times LSU receivers were wide open downfield the way Ja’Marr Chase was, but whether it was due to inaccurate throws, poor pocket awareness or conservative playcalling, they never got the ball in their hands.

But Ja’Marr Chase did. He got the ball downfield a lot!
