The Tigers landed their quarterback for the 2021 class, securing a verbal commitment from Garrett Nussmeier.
A consensus four-star prospect from Flower Mound Texas. He also had offers from Georgia, Miami, Penn State and others. He is rated as the number seven pro style quarterback in the nation according to 247 sports. Number 104 overall.
Landing Nussmeier has always been a big target for LSU, with the Tigers being the presumptive favorite for several months now. Garrett is the son of longtime college and NFL coach Doug Nussmeier, who is currently the Cowboys quarterback coach. Doug was also coached by current LSU passing coordinator Scott Linehan, when both were at the University of Idaho.
Nussmeier is currently listed at 6’2” and 182 pounds. The 247 scouting report highlights Nussmeier’s accuracy and timing with a “gunslinger” approach. He is not the fastest nor does he have the strongest arm.
The commit is the first quarterback in the Tiger class. LSU is still considered in the running for Caleb Williams, the top rated passer in the country, although Williams is considered a heavy Oklahoma lean.
