LSU added a major piece to its 2022 recruiting class Friday afternoon when St. Thomas More (Lafayette) starting quarterback Walker Howard pledged to the Tigers.

Howard’s commitment gives LSU its fifth member of the 2022 class, which is currently ranked No. 1 by 247. He is the highest rated pro-style quarterback to commit to LSU since Jamarcus Russell. He’s the No. 62 overall prospect, third-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country and fourth ranked prospect in Louisiana.
Howard is the son of former LSU quarterback Jamie Howard who quarterbacked the Tigers from 1992-1995. Jamie Howard finished his career third all-time in passing yards (6,158), and second in touchdowns (34) before playing in the Atlanta Braves’ organization. Two of Howard’s sisters are at LSU and one, Meredyth, plays volleyball for the Tigers.
“During quarantine I was thinking a lot, and my dad and I sat down and talked about where I would be happiest,” Howard said. Where do I see myself living the next four to five years, and I’m a big family guy, so I wanted to stay close to my family.”
After years of struggling to attract top quarterback talent, LSU is suddenly positioning themselves for 2021 and beyond. LSU signed Max Johnson, a four-star, and TJ Finley, Louisiana’s highest rated quarterback in the 2020 class; they have four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmier from Flower Mound, Texas committed to the 2021 class and now adds Howard to 2022.
