Coming off its week one 44-34 loss against the Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday, LSU dropped 14 places in the AP Poll falling from No. 6 to No. 20.
The LSU defense was torched to the tune of 623 passing yards, a new SEC record, by Bulldog quarterback K.J. Costello and the new look air raid offense brought over by Mike Leach.
LSU’s fall wasn’t the biggest drop in this week’s ranking. That distinction goes to the Oklahoma Sooners who fell 15 spots from No. 3 to No. 18 after losing to Kansas State 38-35.
After beating the defending champs in Tiger Stadium, Mississippi State was rewarded with the No. 16 ranking in this week’s poll. As a whole, the SEC has eight teams currently ranked in the Top 25. The Kentucky Wildcats dropped out of the poll after losing to Auburn 29-13 in Jordan-Hare.
Having an AP Poll where not all conferences are yet playing football is weird but this is how this week shakes out.
