Former five-star tight end Arik Gilbert has decided to enter the transfer portal, according to his Twitter account.
The Georgia product had massive expectations joining the Tigers but did not have the production to match. Although Orgeron emphasized getting Gilbert the ball more often, Gilbert never really found consistency.
Gilbert had opted out of the rest of the season following the loss from Alabama. Orgeron had said Gilbert was welcome back to the team but many saw the decision as the writing on the wall for Gilbert’s eventual departure.
With Gilbert’s departure LSU will return only two of its top five receivers from 2020. It also leaves the Tigers thin at tight end with Kole Taylor being the only tight end on the roster to have caught a pass this past season.
Arik Gilbert leaves LSU with 35 catches, 368 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 shoes thrown
