After a sluggish pace to finding the next leader of the LSU defense, the Tigers have quickly added to the new defensive staff, hiring Miami DC Blake Baker as linebackers coach/co-defensive coordinator and New York Jets defensive line coach Andre Carter to do the same with the Tigers.
Baker joins the Tigers after a two year stint as Miami’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. A Tulane grad, Baker’s coaching resumé includes stops at Texas, Boise State, Arkansas State, and Louisiana Tech. As a play caller, Baker was nothing to write home about and had his Miami play calling duties stripped, likely in part due to North Carolina setting an FBS record for most rush yards in a game against the Hurricanes with 544.
New defensive line coach Andre Carter used to work with Daronte Carter on the Miami Dolphins staff. A former first round pick by the 49ers out of California, Carter has spent the last four seasons as a coach. Carter only has one year of college coaching experience as an assistant at Cal, but ideally his west coast roots can help out on the recruiting front.
