Tyrion Davis-Price Named SEC Player of the Week

Turns out running for a school record is a good way to earn conference accolades

Fresh off setting the LSU single-game rushing record, junior running back Tyrion Davis-Price was named the SEC’s co-offensive player of the week.

Davis-Price rushed for a school record 284 yards in LSU’s 49-42 upset win over the then No. 20 Florida Gators. He also ran for a career-best three rushing touchdowns. Davis-Price had nearly as many yards rushing Saturday against Florida (284) than he had in LSU’s first six games of the 2021 season (285).

Remarkably, Davis-Price is now the fifth leading rusher in the SEC after his past two performances. Davis-Price is behind Alabama’s Brian Robinson Jr., Texas A&M’s Isaiah Spiller, Missouri’s Tyler Badie, and Kentucky’s Chris Rodriguez Jr.

If LSU’s to continue its winning ways, it’ll take a few more performances like Saturday from TDP. Thankfully it appears the coaching staff has figured somethings out with the offensive line and introducing sophomore tight end/H-back Jack Mashburn into the equation.
