Post-Week 7 SEC Power Rankings

LOL Florida

A wild week seven of the college football season has come and gone. Now we enter week eight and it’s a light schedule this year as four teams are on their bye weeks. Let’s get into it.

1 Georgia

Last week: beat Kentucky 30-13; this week: BYE

Georgia smothered Kentucky and essentially locked up the SEC East in the process.

2 Alabama

Last week: beat Mississippi State 39-9; this week: vs. Tennessee

After getting upset by Texas A&M, Alabama took all of its frustration out on poor ole Mississippi State. Now they try to extend its winning streak over Tennessee to 15 years and umm yeah they probably will.

3 Ole Miss

Last week: beat Tennessee 31-26; this week: vs. LSU

Giving a slight nod to Ole Miss over Kentucky because of the Rebels offense. It may be the best in the country.

4 Kentucky

Last week: lost to Georgia 30-13; this week: BYE

Kentucky came crashing back down to Earth with a three-score loss in Athens. Still, the Cats have a great chance at an 11-1 record and a New Year’s Six bowl bid.

5 Auburn

Last week: beat Arkansas 38-23; this week: BYE

Give Auburn credit, the schedule gave them a brutal October and so far they’re 2-1 in those three games. Now they get a week off to get ready for Ole Miss next weekend.

6 Texas A&M

Last week: beat Texas A&M 35-14; this week: vs. South Carolina

Is A&M good or did they just beat Alabama that one time? We won’t find out for a few more weeks as the Aggies host a really bad Carolina team and then get the bye the following Saturday.

7 LSU

Last week: beat Florida 49-42; this week: @ Ole Miss

You know what’s wild? LSU’s only a half game out of second place in the West. Now I don’t think they’ll beat Ole Miss on Saturday, but then again I didn’t think they’d beat Florida either. And Coach O’s never lost to Ole Miss in his tenure...

8 Florida

Last week: lost to LSU 49-42; this week: vs. Georgia

If I’m a Florida booster I’m trying my hardest to raise whatever money is needed to buyout Dan Mullen. How can you lose to LSU’s JV team two years in a row?

9 Arkansas

Last week: lost to Auburn 38-23; this week vs. Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Poor Arkansas, the toughest schedule in all of FBS has caught up to them. The Hogs have dropped three straight games and are currently in last place in the West. They get a chance to catch their breath this week against Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

10 Mississippi State

Last week: lost to Alabama 39-9; this week: @ Vanderbilt

State happened to be the unfortunate bastards that drew the “Alabama coming off a loss stick.” They’ll get a chance to cleanse their palette against Vandy.

11 Tennessee

Last week: lost to Ole Miss 31-26; this week: @ Alabama

Man look Tennessee’s playing teams a lot tougher than I would’ve expected. If they can even look somewhat competitive against Alabama I’ll be impressed.

12 South Carolina

Last week: beat Vanderbilt 21-20; this week: @ Texas A&M

Shane Beamer got his first conference win as head coach of the Gamecocks. Good for him.

13 Missouri

Last week: lost to Texas A&M 35-14; this week: BYE

I really don’t have a whole lot to say about Missouri. They’re constantly out of sight out of mind and now they’re off this week.

14 Vanderbilt

Last week: lost to South Carolina 21-20; this week: vs. Mississippi State

I’d be a lot more excited if Mississippi State and Vandy were playing baseball. Sigh
