Fresh off a pair of important wins over Mississippi State and Tennessee, LSU point guard Javonte Smart and shooting guard Cameron Thomas were honored by the SEC as players of the week.
Smart was named the SEC’s player of the week for the first time this season, while Thomas was named the freshman of the week for the third time.
Smart had one of the best weeks of his LSU career last week. Against Mississippi State, Smart scored 22 points and handed out 11 assists; and Smart, for the third year in a row, was integral in LSU beating Tennessee, scoring 20 points. Smart’s averaging 23 points in three games against the Volunteers, and LSU is 3-0.
Thomas scored 25 points in both games against Mississippi State and Tennessee. He’s scored 20 points or more in five straight games, and leads all DI freshmen with 14 games of 20 points.
With the wins, LSU now owns a 13-6 record overall and is tied with Arkansas for second place in the SEC at 8-4. LSU will be back in action on late Thursday afternoon against Ole Miss.
