Tigers Begin SEC play with big win over Tennessee

LSU enters weekend on three-game win streak

LSU followed up its big series win over Texas, the Tiger stayed on a roll taking their first SEC series of the year over #22 Tennessee along with a midweek win over SELU

Pleasants homer lifts Tigers in series opener

Offense was limited but ultimately the Tigers emerged victorious thanks to a Taylor Pleasants home run in the top of the 8th inning, giving LSU a 2-1 victory. It was a combined effort in the circle with Shelbi Sunseri giving the Tigers five innings of one-run ball and striking out four. Ali Kilponen struck out three and allowed just one runner in three innings of shutout relief.

Vols even series in extras

In a back-and-forth game, it was Tennessee who came away with a game two victory thanks to a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth. UT jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first only to see the Tigers gain a 3-2 lead in part from an RBI triple by Aliyah Andrews and an RBI ground out from Pleasants. However, unlike the day before Kilponen was ineffective in her relief apperance, allowing two runs in an inning plus of work. Maribeth Gorsuch was solid starter going 5.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits and two walks, striking out two.

Tiger bats explode in finale

It was all Tigers in the deciding 11-3 victory. Sunseri led the charge with a home run and driving in four total. Amanda Doyle also had a big game with a two-run home run and an RBI single. LSU also saw Georgia Clark hit a two-run home run while Morgan Cummins and Ciarra Briggs each posted RBI singles. Shelby Wickersham got the start and went 4.1 innings striking out two and allowing one earned run. She got into a bit of a bind in the bottom of the fifth and was relieved for Shelbi Sunseri who closed out the inning to secure the run rule win.

LSU crushes Lions in Hammond

The Tiger flexed their muscles in a dominating 12-1 victory over the Lions. Doyle had another strong game, scoring twice and driving in two. Clark added three RBIs while Pleasants posted an RBI single. LSU got a home run from Cummins and an inside the park grand slam from Raeleen Gutierrez. A combined effort of Kilponen and Morgan Smith made easy work of SELU, striking out six and allowing just five hits.

Up next, LSU hosts Texas A&M for a three-game set and then travels to South Alabama for a Wednesday night matchup
