It wasn’t a great weekend for the Tigers as LSU was swept by the Gators in a three-game set, though the Tiger snapped the losing streak on Tuesday which secured Beth Torina’s 400th win with LSU.
Gators shutout Tigers in opener
Shelbi Sunseri took the loss, allowing five runs in a 5-0 Gator win. LSU had a chance to take the lead in the first with two-on and two out but nothing came across as Amanda Doyle was thrown out at first following a Georgia Clark single. In all the Tigers had just three hits and three walks.
LSU cant make comeback in 7-4 loss.
Starter Ali Kilponen lasted just two thirds of an inning allowing four runs with the Tigers being down 6-0 after three innings. In the top of the fourth LSU appeared to be mounting something of a comeback with a four-run inning thanks to RBI’s by Sunseri and Danica Coffeey. However, the Tigers were never able to close the gap.
Pitching crushed in series finale
It had not been a strong weekend for the Tiger staff so far, but Sunday was a particularly struggle as LSU’s staff surrendered nine runs. Maribeth Gorsuch took the loss giving up three runs in just two thirds of an inning. Sunseri finished out the game allowing six runs in the process. The Tigers got RBI’s from Sunseri and Clark.
Tigers snap losing streak with win over ULM
It wasn’t pretty but a 7-5 win gave the Tigers a much needed win over ULM. LSU’s bats got off to a big start, with a five run second inning, highlighted by a Clark home run, a pair of RBI walks, and a Doyle RBI single. Aliyah Andrews provided much needed insurance runs in the fifth with a two-RBI single. On the pitching side, Freshman Morgan Smith was shaky in her outing allowing three runs in three and a third innings. Kilponen came in relief with three plus innings to close out the game.
Up next, LSU begins a four-game homestand starting off with a three game series versus Ole Miss on Thursday. All 3 games will be on SECN+.
