LSU announce the hire Kim Mulkey to take over the Lady Tigers women’s basketball program.

Kim Mulkey was previously head coach of the Baylor Bears where she won three national titles since taking over Baylor in 2000.

During her tenure at Baylor, the Bears never won less than 20 games in a season and have won 11 straight Big XII championships.

Mulkey’s move to LSU is somewhat of a homecoming for her. She is from Tickfaw and played at Hammond High School, where she won four state championships and was valedictorian.

During college, Mulkey played for the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters and was a national champion and Naismith player of the year. Mulkey was the first woman to win a national title as a player and a coach.

Perhaps her strongest connection to LSU is her son, Kramer Robertson. He played baseball for the Tigers.

Mulkey will inherit a program that has not been to the final four since its remarkable five straight run that ended in 2008.

The Tigers missed the tournament this season and have not won an NCAA tournament game since 2014.

It is unclear what LSU’s roster will look like going into the next season as players may transfer in and out now that Mulkey is hired.
