2021 NFL Draft: Ja’Marr Chase Selected 5th Overall by Cincinnati Bengals

Chase reunites with Joe Burrow

Ja’Marr Chase was taken in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, fifth overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Chase, the 2019 Bilentikoff winner, is the most decorated receiver in school history. He is also the highest drafted LSU wide receiver ever, eclipsing Odell Beckham Jr. who was taken 12th by the New York Giants in 2014.

In 2019 Chase caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns which are LSU single season records. Despite only playing two seasons, Chase ranks fourth in school history touchdown receptions with 23.

Chase opted out of playing this past season but the decision didn’t cost him at all. Chase still wound up being the first receiver taken, which is where most pundits had him projected at the end of the 2019 season. Indeed Chase very easily could have been a first round pick in last year’s draft had he been eligible.

Now Chase gets to reunite with his former quarterback Joe Burrow where they will hopefully get to recreate some of the magic from 2019. Chase figures to be Cincinnati’s number one receiver once the season begins.
