“Thank you for embracing a kid from Birmingham, Alabama, as one of your own,” Watford said in the post. “It’s been an honor to wear the purple and gold. These past two years have been a complete joy.”
Watford also said he plans to hire an agent and if he does he’ll forfeit his eligibility. If you’ll recall Watford declared for last year’s draft but because he didn’t hire an agent, he was able to withdraw his name and return to LSU.
A two-year starter, Watford was a first-team All-SEC selection this past season and made the conference’s All-Freshman team the year before. Watford also made this season’s SEC All-Tournament team after averaging 21 points in LSU’s three games in Nashville.
Watford took strides as a sophomore, upping his scoring from 13 points a game to 16 points a game and really developed as a facilitator; this past year Watford averaged nearly three assists a game. He also improved his three-point shooting going from 27 percent as a freshman to 32 percent. For his career Watford averaged 14.9 points and 7.3 rebounds and started 58 of 59 games.
Whether or not Watford actually hears his name called come draft night remains to be seen. Per NBADraft.net, Watford is ranked as the 98th overall prospect and the draft only has 60 selections.
