SOFTBALL: Streak of series wins snapped vs Arkansas

Rebecca Warren

Apologies for the missed series wrap up last week. Good news was that LSU took that series from No.10 Kentucky, a team which had tormented LSU for many years. Bad news is that in returning home after a long-road trip, the Tigers dropped the series to Arkansas.

Runs limited as Arky takes game one

As has been the case for the last month, the Tigers dropped the first game of the weekend. This time it was a 1-0 Razorback win. Unfortunately, Shelbi Sunseri was the hard luck loser as she allowed the only run in the game in the top of the seventh. She logged three strikeouts. Aliyah Andrews was the only Tiger of note on offense, picking up two hits.

Tigers eek out win to tie series

Runs again were in short supply in game two, only this time it was LSU who came out on top. The 2-1 Tiger win was backed by an outstanding performance by Ali Kilponen, allowing just one hit, in the first inning none the less, and struck out three. The Tiger runs came from an Amanda Doyle RBI single and Ciarra Briggs ground out.

Hogs win game three

Arkansas got ahead early and never looked back, taking the series finale 4-1. Maribeth Gorsuch took the loss, allowing a run in just 1.2 innings. Her relief Sunseri allowed two home runs in two thirds an inning. Kilponen closed the game out, allowing one run in five innings with four strikeouts. Doyle again provided the offense for the Tigers with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Amazingly, the regular season comes to an end this upcoming weekend with three games against Auburn before heading to Tuscaloosa for the SEC Tournament.
