(All times and dates mentioned are US central)

Softball

Team USA and LSU assistant coach Howard Dobson lost the Gold Medal vs Japan and will take home Silver.

3B Amanda Sanchez and Mexico lost in the Bronze medal game to Canada.

It was a nice return for softball to the Olympics, all things considered. The US will have to wait some time for revenge though. Softball will not return to the Olympic lineup until the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Soccer

Allysha Chapman and Team Canada continue to advance, beating Brazil on penalty kicks to advance to the Semifinals. They will play the great USWNT at 3am on Monday Aug 2.

Basketball

One more round of Group Play to go in basketball. Sylvia Fowles and the 2-0 US women’s team will take on France Sunday at 11:40pm. Duop Reath and 2-0 Team Australia face Germany at 3am Saturday.

Tennis

Michael Venus has won the first medal in Tennis for New Zealand in 109 years as he and his partner Marcus Daniell defeated the US in the Bronze Medal match Thursday night. It is also the first olympic medal of any kind for an LSU tennis player. Neal Skupski and Great Britain were eliminated in the 2n round of Men’s Doubles competition.

Swimming

As reported earlier, Brooks Curry (and his jorts) were subbed out of the Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Final, which the US won. As he swam in the qualifying heat, he will still receive a Gold medal as part of the team.

Juan Celaya-Hernandez placed 4th in Men’s Synchronized 3m Springboard, missing a medal by just 5 points.

Track & Field

JuVaughn Harrison nailed his High Jump qualifying and advances to the Finals on Sunday Morning. He will also begin Long Jump qualifying on early Saturday morning.

LSU Legend MONDO Duplantis, the current world record holder in multiple disciplines of the pole vault, will finally make his Olympics debut Friday night with qualifying at 7:40pm.

Also in action on the track for LSU this weekend will be Michael Cherry-USA in the Men’s 400m, Favour Ofili-Nigeria in the Women’s 200m, and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake-Great Britain in the Men’s 200m

Kelly-Ann Baptiste for Trinidad & Tobago in the Women’s 100m was eliminated in a qualifying heat.
