New offensive line coach Brad Davis secured his first big recruiting win for LSU as four-star guard Emory Jones pledged to the Tigers Friday evening.
Jones made the announcement through a YouTube video that featured his future LSU teammates, five-stars Walker Howard (quarterback, St. Thomas More) and Will Campbell (offensive tackle, Neville).
Jones, from nearby Catholic High, is a top-200 prospect nationally and the No. 9 interior offensive linemen. Jones gives LSU three offensive linemen in its 2022 recruiting class and technically fourth seeing as Lafayette Christian Academy’s Fitzgerald West, listed as a defensive tackle, will play center upon his arrival next year.
Jones had offers from schools all across the South, highlighted by Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Florida State. The Noles appeared to be the biggest competition for Jones, but in the end Brad Davis got his guy.
Jones is the second addition in as many days for LSU. Yesterday three-star tight end Mason Taylor out of Fort Lauderdale committed to LSU.
Friday wasn’t all good news for LSU on the recruiting trail however. Five-star safety Jacoby Matthews out of Ponchatoula announced he would be opening up his recruitment and de-committed from the Tigers.

Matthews is currently listed as the No. 2 safety nationally and the No. 3 prospect in Louisiana behind Campbell and Howard. For what it’s worth, 247 still has Matthews ending up at LSU, so perhaps the young man will end up playing under the lights of Death Valley.
The change of heart from Matthews knocked LSU’s 2022 class down to No. 5 nationally but 247 has yet to factor in the addition of Emery Jones. Either way, LSU is once again building an elite class and still has 10 more spots available to work with.
