Jersey Numbers Updated for Football

Freshmen, transfers have their numbers; Stingley officially wearing 7

Football is truly on the horizon.

The 2021 football season is four weeks from today; players both new and old are on campus and fall camp is officially in session. With LSU’s 2021 signing class officially on the roster, the team website has been updated with the new players’ numbers.

  • DT Maason Smith: #0
  • QB Garrett Nussmeier: #5
  • S Derrick Davis Jr: #6
  • WR Deion Smith: #6
  • WR Malik Nabers: #8
  • WR Brian Thomas Jr: #11
  • S Matthew Langlois: #14
  • S Sage Ryan: #15
  • DE Zavier Carter: #17
  • WR Chris Hilton Jr.: #17
  • LB Mike Jones Jr. #19
  • RB Corey Kiner: #21
  • RB Armoni Goodwin: #22
  • LB Buck Strong: #22
  • CB Damarius McGhee: #26
  • S Major Burns: #28
  • LB Greg Penn III: #30
  • DE Savion Jones: #35
  • CB Pig Cage: #38
  • P Peyton Todd: #38
  • DE Landon Jackson: #40
  • OG Kimo Makane’ole: #55
  • OT Garrett Dellinger: #72
  • WR Jack Bech: #80
  • DT Bryce Langston: #81

Couple of thoughts on the newcomers numbers:

  • Generally I hate when athletes wear 0 (and I can’t stand when they wear 00) but I’ll make an exception for Maason Smith who is the first player in program history to wear 0. Maason Smith could also beat me up so I’m not going to try and tell him what he can and can’t do.
  • My favorites from this group are Thomas wearing 11, Ryan wearing 15, and Hilton/Carter wearing 17.
  • Peyton Todd dons the 38 as is tradition with LSU punters
  • While I don’t think LSU will officially retire Devin White’s 40 I wish it was one of those understood “nobody else is going to wear this” numbers.
  • Speaking of retired numbers: how on earth has Glenn Dorsey’s 72 not been retired yet? He’s the most decorated defensive player in program history, let’s get on this.

The team’s website also officially lists Derek Stingley as No. 7 on the roster, and senior corner Darren Evans is now wearing Stingley’s old 24.
