The No. 7 ranked LSU Tigers won their sixth straight game Monday night, dominating Texas Southern 106-47 inside the PMAC.
Flau’jae Johnson tied for the team lead in scoring with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and five steals. Aneesah Morrow also had 17 and she had seven steals. Morrow, Johnson, and LSU had a season-best 22 steals Monday night.
Superstar freshman Mikaylah Williams continues to look the part as she scored 14 points and hit four three-pointers. Williams has had double-digit scoring nights in five straight contests. Hailey Van Lith pitched in with a season-best 16 points.
“We are playing faster because we are more comfortable knowing where each other are on the floor,” Van Lith said.
But the biggest story from Monday night didn’t come from who was on the floor, but rather who wasn’t. For the second straight game, Angel Reese was nowhere to be seen. Reese was pulled at halftime of last Tuesday’s game against Kent State and was not with the team when the Tigers travelled to Southeastern this past Friday.
“You always have to deal with locker room issues,” Kim Mulkey said in her postgame conference. “Sometimes you don’t know about it. Sometimes you want to know more than you’re entitled to know. I’m going to protect my players, always. They are more important.”
Next up LSU will travel to the Cayman Island Classic. The Tigers will play Niagara on Friday and Virginia on Saturday. As to whether or not Reese will be with LSU on this trip, Mulkey had this to say:
“If I have, I wouldn’t tell you, OK? You’re not entitled to that information.”
