Folks I’ve seen enough: LSU is going to win the national championship.
Men’s hoops beat Vanderbilt last night 77-69 inside the friendly confines of the PMAC to improve to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in league play. I’ll remind you that last season Matt McMahon’s squad went 2-16 in SEC play last year, and didn’t get that second win—also against Vanderbilt!—until February 22.
Jalen Cook continues to be a transformative piece, and last night had a season-best 28 points, 4 rebounds, and was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Jordan Wright had 15 points against his former team and Mike Williams also cracked double digit points with 10 and 8 rebounds.
“Really proud of our players, we found a way to win” Matt McMahon said after the game. “I thought our effort on the defensive side of the ball was terrific.
“Ultimately, the goal is to win. I thought our players on Saturday night emptied the tank, everything that we had from a toughness, an emotion, a passion standpoint. The goal was to get back, prepare Sunday and Monday, and find a way to win tonight. I am thrilled with our guys’ effort to get that done.”
LSU didn’t have their best night shooting—42 percent from the floor and an ice-cold 18 percent from three—but they were nails at the free throw line. LSU shot a season best 87 percent (20 of 23) from the line.
Next up, LSU will have its toughest test yet as the Tigers have to travel to The Jungle to take on #16 Auburn. Tip off is set for 5:00 and you can watch it on SEC Network.
