What to say about our neighbors on The Bluff? Coming off a rare sub-.500 season, Rodger Cador's Jaguars (2-8) are off to a really bad start. Their only wins were an opening weekend sweep of Grambling as part of the MLB Tournament that LSU hosted and they have since lost to UNO, Northwestern St, and Ark-PB. Southern has just 1 returning starter from their previous year's team in LF Tyler Kirksey. Kirksey was the Jags leading hitter in 2013 at a .340 BA, but he's down to .174 and has only started 5 games this season. Their best offensive weapons are C Jeremy Glore (474/500/526, but he's only played in 6 games) and RF DJ Wallace (359/422/513, 10 RBI 1HR.)
Southern has had only 1 pitcher with more than one start in Friday night's Santos Saldivar (1.88 ERA) and have starts from 7 other players with ERAs ranging from 2.38 to 12.86 (staff ERA is 6.06) Tonight we will see Fr. RHP Brady May (0-2, 7.50 ERA, 3K, 6BB, over 6IP) while LSU is starting Jared Poche' in a planned 2 inning warmup before his Sunday start at Vandy. Expect to see almost the entire roster tonight as Mainieri will certianly try to use all of his pitchers and fielders sparingly so that everyone can be available this weekend.
