Times for Baton Rouge Super Regional Announced

+

The NCAA has released start times for LSU's super regional against Florida State. Game 1: Saturday, 2:00, ESPN Game 2: Sunday, 6:00, ESPN 2 Game 3, if necessary: Monday, 7:30, ESPN. The times for the super regional makes sense. FSU-LSU is (arguably) the biggest sellable matchup. They put game one before all the other game twos, so you can have the deciding game two and three on primetime.

LSU blasts Auburn 7-1, Walker has best start for an LSU pitcher in more than a month

+

LSU needs wins to keep it's postseason hosting hopes alive and they certainly played like it last night, running away from Auburn with a 7-1 victory. LSU had 3 homers on the night, including Antoine Duplantis' 11th of the year and an absolute bomb by Saul Garza to left that legitimately almost landed in the U-High baseball field. While the offense was taking care of business, Eric Walker had a tremendous return to form, giving up 1 run over 6 innings, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. His outing was the first time an LSU starting pitcher completed the 6th inning since April 13th. Following him, Todd Peterson had 2 innings of middle relief with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Peterson's outing should put to bed any thought of him starting on Sunday, but maybe Mainieri is trying to set things up for the SEC Tournament this Tuesday? The series resumes tonight at 7pm on SECN+ with Landon Marceaux on the mound for LSU. If you don't have the internet (how are you reading this) SEC Network proper is doing Bases Loaded whip around coverage tonight.

LSU Softball qualifies as #10 seed, Hosts Regional this weekend

+

The NCAA announced the field for the Softball tournament last night and LSU was ranked as the #10 overall seed. They'll host the regional round at Tiger Park this weekend, with Texas Tech, CUSA Champion La Tech, and MAAC Champion Monmouth. The Tigers had been projected as the last top 8 seed heading into last week, but their quick exit from the SEC Tournament appears to have damaged their resume somewhat. If LSU progresses past the weekend, they'll likely be on the road for the Super Regional round. They are paired in the bracket with #7 Minnesota.

REPORT: AD Joe Alleva Resigning

35

From the Baton Rouge Business Report (who, weirdly, has a great reputation at breaking LSU sports news) "LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva is expected to step down—perhaps as early as today—from the position he has held at the university for more than a decade, a high ranking source within the LSU System tells Daily Report. LSU officials declined to comment. ... While details of Alleva’s expected departure remain murky, sources say a deal is in the works to replace him with a nationally recognized leader in university athletics. That announcement is also expected in the coming days." There are many, MANY rumors surrounding yesterday's closed door LSU Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss "potential litigation" and it can't be helped but to draw a line between that meeting and this news. More as this develops....

Bats Remain Silent As McNeese St. Shuts Out LSU

5

In what has become all too common problem during this season, LSU struggled mightily last night against a mid-week Southland Conference opponent and for the 2nd time this year lost to one. The Tigers 0-2 shut out loss to McNeese St. only served to put a spotlight on just how bad things have gotten at the plate lately. 1 through 5 in the LSU lineup last night were an abysmal 1-for-17 with 6 strikeouts. The team as a whole had 4 hits to 8 strikeouts and never managed to string more than one of those hits together for some offensive output, leaving 9 on base. It's hard to call LSU pitching a bright spot given that there are now 8 members of the bullpen down with some kind of injury issue, but those that can still play are doing nicely for themselves. Ma'Khail Hilliard was charged with the loss, giving up a run on 1 hit in 2.2 innings of work, a session I think was shortened because he may be called on in Starkville this weekend. There was also another great short relief outing from Clay Moffitt, who escaped a bases loaded jam in the third inning and kept his perfect 0.00 ERA and zero walks intact, now through 8.1 innings of work. Given the circumstances, I can see him start to get some weekend relief work as well. The road stretch continues this Thursday as LSU heads to Starkvegas to face Mississippi St and a no doubt insane crowd this weekend at the newly-renovated Dudy Noble Condos

Another Walk-off Win, Tigers Beat Nicholls 5-4 in 10

+

For the 4th time this year, LSU was able to find some last minute heroics at the plate. The game was a tight back and forth as Nicholls was able to tag LSU pitching for 3 solo shot home runs. Down 3-4 in the bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs, Coach Mainieri inserted Chris Reid from the bench and the Professional Hitter promptly dropped an RBI double into left to send the game to extras. In the 10th, Daniel Cabrera hit a liner to the wall in the right corner for an RBI double and the win. The Tigers are heading to UGA for the weekend
